First of all I wanna say happy new year! I hope you all had an amazing Christmas. Did Santa bring you everything you wanted? For me Christmas was spent with my friends and family, drinking too much and eating like kings, that and running around like a headless chicken at work. But that’s Christmas for you.
Anyway I thought sharing my goals for 2018 was the perfect way to kick off the year. Now I’ve never really been one to make new year resolutions (let alone stick to them) and yet each year, at the stroke of midnight I would vow to myself that I would lose weight or save money etc. Now don’t get me wrong, there is something really refreshing about the start of a new year but you can make changes at any time of year if you wanted too so this year I’m taking my own advice and setting myself some resolutions but with a bit of a twist…
RESOLUTION 1 – DON’T MAKE RESOLUTIONS
Yes you read that right. I’m not going to make any resolutions. For me my resolutions were always long term and drastic. They were totally unrealistic. As much as I’d like too am I really gonna lose five stone in a year? Of course not! So this year instead of focusing on the long term I’ve decided to focus on now and set goals for myself for each month or every few months.
But Abby what do you mean? Well this year I’d like to lose weight and create a healthier lifestyle but instead of thinking about the future I’m setting myself goals on how I can begin to achieve that now. For example this month I’m aiming to get myself back to the gym at least twice a week. Nothing major but it’s a step in the right direction. I also know that I’d like a mini break this year so I may set aside x amount of money per month in order to achieve this. I just feel that this is so much better for my mental health. I can set myself doable monthly goals to reach that final result by completing small but significant steps.
RESOLUTION / NOT RESOLUTION 2 – CREATE A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE
This year I’m wanting to get into the best shape of my life. I wanna lose some weight and build an ass to rival Sommer Ray’s (😍) . To do this I’m going aiming to hit the gym at least twice a week this month as well as focusing on creating meal plans every week so I know exactly what I’m eating and when and stop me from binge eating all the cookies in the biscuit cupboard.
RESOLUTION / NOT RESOLUTION 3 – LIVE IN THE MOMENT & STRESS LESS
I’ve spent the majority of my life worrying and stressing about the smallest of things and where has it got me? Nowhere. I’ve come to realise that no matter how much you stress or worry about something the outcome will be the same regardless if you worry or not. I’m trying to take each day as it comes. No planning ahead or thinking about the future. I just want to live in the moment. I want to say yes to more things and stop sweating the small stuff. Of course there is always going to be ups and downs but I’ll worry those when they come. Not now.
RESOLUTION / NOT RESOLUTION 4 – BLOG MORE
Last year I began my blog and I’m really keen to dive back into it. I’ve been putting more time into my Instagram recently and really want to focus on uploading more frequently on both platforms this year. As well as regular uploads I also want to take more photos as this is something I enjoy doing and become more integrated with the blogging community.
RESOLUTION / NOT RESOLUTION 5 – SELF CARE
Last year I realised just how important looking after yourself truly is – both physically and mentally. I’ve lived with my crappy body for 24 years now so I’ve always had to look after myself that way but mentally I had been neglecting myself. Luckily I’ve found a few ways to help take care of my mind such as taking time out or writing my worries down. Just little subtle changes to look after myself rather than bottling it up inside and eventually and exploding like volcano 🌋
